Time animation is our reference for observing sequences of events and change. Time occupies a continuum which we label now and then, and we subdivide then further into past and future.

Photographers capture their photos in the now, while the results of their activity are a record of the past. The challenge of photography is to capture the "decisive moment".

Wikipedia expands on various aspects of time.
