"Silhouette":
  • A dark image highlighted against a lighter background,
  • A view of an object or scene, consisting of the outline and a featureless interior.

The word silhouette came from Étienne de Silhouette, a French Controller-General of Finances under Louis XV, who later practiced silhouette cutting.
