Presentation :
  • Ian Chesterfield demonstrated methods for transferring images from a digital camera to a flash drive or computer hard drive.
  • Geoff Turton demonstrated how FastStone Image Viewer, an excellent freeware program, can be used to create professional-looking stand-alone slideshows that include music and a wide selection of slide transition effects.
Activity :
  • The subject for photos to be presented at our meeting on 2 February 2010 will be "Australian Landscape".

News :
  • Results of the 2009 ASCCA Digital Photography and inaugural PhotoStory competitions are expected to be announced at the ASCCA Annual General Meeting on 19 November 2009.
  • The Basic Digital Still Camera Operation Course that was presented in 2008 and 2009 will be repeated in 2010.
  • An interesting selection of topics was received for our photos in 2010. Members will indicate their preferences during November and the 11 topics for 2010 will be presented at our December DIG meeting.
Presentations :
  • Mary Daly presented a most entertaining slideshow on "Cats". Created with the SlideShow Builder tool in FastStone Image Viewer, Mary's slideshow was "stand-alone" (it didn't need separate viewer software), incorporated a wide range of slide transitions and included background music.
  • Geoff Turton demonstrated how to use the MS Draw toolbar that is available in several Microsoft Office Applications.
Activity :
  • Photos featuring a "View Through an Opening" will be displayed at our December meeting.
Members' Photos :
  • 13 members presented their images of "Spring".

  • Members are asked to submit their suggestions for 2010 photo subjects at the DIG meeting on 3 November 2009.
Presentations :
  • Ian Chesterfield demonstrated the features of Microsoft Office Picture Manager that comes with all versions of Microsoft Office. (Installing Picture Manager is optional when installing Microsoft Office).
  • Some HSCC members' entries in the 2009 ASCCA Photo Story Video Competition were shown. More will be presented on 3 November 2009.
Activity :
  • Members will display their images of "Spring" at our November meeting.

  • 12 members presented their images of "Urban Life".

  • The deadline for submission of entries in the 2009 ASCCA Digital Photography and Photo Story Video Competitions has been extended to Tuesday 1 September 2009.
Presentation :
  • Geoff Turton demonstrated Photoscape, an excellent and free multipurpose digital image processing software package available from www.photoscape.org.
Activity :
  • The challenge for our September meeting will be to capture images of "Symmetry".
Members' Photos :
  • 20 members presented a varied selection of "clouds".

  • Entries for the 2009 ASCCA Digital Photography Competition must be submitted to Ian Chesterfield on a CD or DVD, with a completed personal entry form, by the DIG meeting on Tuesday 4 August 2009.
    • The categories for this year are:
      • 1a - Enhanced LANDSCAPE
      • 1b - Enhanced CARING
      • 1c - Enhanced GENERAL
      • 2a - Not Enhanced LANDSCAPE
      • 2b - Not Enhanced CARING
      • 2c - Not Enhanced GENERAL
    • Each image must be given a title and labelled as follows:
      Category (eg: 1a) _Picture Title_Your Given Name_ Your Surname Initial.
    • Include all your photos in a single folder labelled:
      HSCC_Your Surname_Your Given Name.
  • Entries for the new ASCCA Photo Story Video Competition must be submitted to Robin Ireland on a CD or DVD, with a completed personal entry form, by the DIG meeting on Tuesday 4 August 2009.
    • The categories for this competition are:

      • 2 - SPECIAL EVENT

  • Ian Chesterfield demonstrated the image editing features available in Windows Photo Gallery, that comes with Windows Vista. These include:
    • Auto Adjust
    • Adjust Exposure
    • Adjust Colour
    • Crop Picture, and
    • Fix Red Eye
Activity :
  • "Clouds" will be the subject for photos at our August meeting.

  • 16 members accepted the challenge to capture "stillness" in an image.

  • Marilyn Richardson advised that a "Worldwide Photo Walk" is being planned for Saturday 18 July 2009. As yet, details have not been confirmed for Sydney, but it is expected to proceed from Circular Quay.

Presentation :
  • Ian Chesterfield demonstrated "PhotoRazor", a free program that can quickly resize a group of images for e-mail distribution, or otherwise transmitting over the internet. Download PhotoRazor and try it out.
Activity :
  • Members will be trying to capture "Stillness" in an image for our July meeting.
Members' Photos :
  • 16 members presented some commendable photos that relied on "perspective" to convey a perception of depth in an image.

    Topics for this year are:
    • 1a - Enhanced LANDSCAPE

    • 2b - Not Enhanced CARING
    • 2c - Not Enhanced GENERAL
  • A new competition in 2009 is the Photo Story Video Competition.
    Members can submit one entry in each of the following categories:
    • Travel
    • A Special Event, and
    • General.
  • Details and entry forms for these competitions are available on ASCCA's website.
Presentation :
  • Geoff Turton presented Part 2 ("Design") in a series of talks on "Designing a Photograph".
Activity :
  • The subject for photos to be presented at our June 2009 meeting is "Perspective".
Members' Photos :
  • 17 members displayed an interesting selection of images featuring "hands".

  • 19 members presented some interesting interpretations of this month's theme "one colour".

News :
  • The Digital Still Camera Basic Operation course that was conducted for the first time in 2008 will be repeated in 2009.
    This course explores the basic and more advanced features of digital still cameras in general and demonstrates how to find and use these features in your camera.
Discussion :
  • The following subjects were discussed:
    • Transferring images from camera to computer,
    • Lossless rotation of digital images, and
    • Recovering deleted images.
Activity :
  • The photo theme for our March meeting will be "Technology".
Members' Photos :
  • Members presented their attempts to capture "Heat" in an image.
